GPS power supply and GPS battery capabilities

10 May 2009 | by Fleta

when we buy GPS, we should consider GPS power supply and GPS battery capabilities. since many of time, we use GPS in the car or outdoors, and sometimes in long distance travel navigation. GPS devices designed primarily for in-car use plug into the car’s 12-volt power port. there are car chargers for car gps and bluetooth gps. but for hiking, there are different battery design for the various products. for example: some GPS use the samebatteries as Nokia cellphone, so the Nokia mobile phone users can use cell phone battery as a backup. Some GPS use large capacity battery. Even some gps use an external box of dry-cell batteries. All these methods can resolve the GPS power problem, but you should choose the most suitable way for yourself. a handheld GPS device with batteries is mandatory. For short trips, a model with built-in rechargeable batteries will do. Small GPS units typically save weight and space by using two AAA cells, but they may last for only 4 or 5 hours on one set of batteries. Larger handhelds use up to four AA cells (which means more weight) but run for as long as 12 hours per set.
