Do pay monthly gps subscription fee/cost for garmin gps system?

planning to get one road garmin GPS navigator. Some say I need to paymonthly gps subscription fee in order to use the GPS system and some say I don’t have to. My purpose is to find (i) how to get to the destination (ii) the shortest route and (iii) where is Gas station or McDonald nearby

1) No, there are no monthly gps subscription fees for using the signals transmitted from GPS satellites. Your taxes pay for the gps system. There are no monthly fees for Garmin gps devices. (There are fees for certain systems, like OnStar, but that is because toffer other services, like roadside assistance and unlocking your car.) Garmin usually updates its maps once a year. You have to pay if you want new maps, but it is optional. You can use your old maps as long as you want.

2) GPS receivers only receive signals from the satellites. GPS receivers do not transmit anything.

3) You’ll have to do your own homework to choose the best gps navigation system for you. There are too many features. You really need to try a few out in a store before you buy.

4) While tall include some Points of Interest, like gas stations and fast food places, tare not comprehensive. Sometimes things are listed, sometimes not. Mostly not. Although having some POIs is better than nothing, my wife and I rarely find them to be useful. If you really need to know where all the McDonald’s are, you are much better off looking them up before you leave.
You don’t have to pay any fees to use the system. The GPS satellites send out a signal that is not encoded or anything. If there are any gps subscriptionfees, would be for map up dates as roads change or local streets are added. These should be optional or certainly very reasonable, but I dont know for certain.
